Eric Mindich

Founder · Eton Park Capital Management

Youngest Goldman Sachs partner ever (age 27); ran GS's equities business before founding Eton Park; raised $3.5B at launch (2004 record); Eton Park managed $14B at peak; returned capital 2017 citing difficult environment.

Eric Mindich graduated from Harvard University and joined Goldman Sachs in 1988. He became the youngest partner in Goldman Sachs history at age 27 — a remarkable distinction in a partnership culture that typically promoted partners only after many years. At Goldman he built and managed the firm's proprietary equities trading operations, developing expertise across event-driven strategies including merger arbitrage, spinoffs, and corporate restructurings. In 2004 he left Goldman to found Eton Park Capital Management, which launched with $3.5 billion in assets from institutional investors — the largest hedge fund launch in history at that time. Eton Park managed peak assets of approximately $14 billion. The fund focused on event-driven and multi-strategy equity investing, seeking value in corporate events, restructurings, and special situations. After a period of mixed performance in the post-2012 low-volatility environment, Mindich announced in 2017 that he would return capital to investors and close Eton Park, citing the difficulty of generating adequate returns in a difficult investing environment. He subsequently became involved in private investment activities.
