Josh Harris
Sports finance, private equity in media, alternative investment fund building
Josh Harris co-founded Apollo Global Management with Leon Black and Marc Rowan in 1990 and was instrumental in building its private equity and credit businesses over three decades. He departed Apollo in 2022 to focus on sports and media investments through Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, which he co-founded with David Blitzer. The firm owns the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Devils, and has pursued ownership of multiple other major sports franchises. Harris represents the growing intersection between PE-trained capital allocators and premium sports assets. His analytical approach to valuing sports franchises — assessing media rights, venue economics, and sponsorship revenue streams with the same rigor applied to corporate buyouts — has influenced how sophisticated investors evaluate sports team ownership as an asset class within a diversified alternative investment portfolio.
