Doug McMillon is the President and CEO of Walmart Inc., the world's largest company by revenue, generating over $600 billion annually. Born in 1966 in Memphis, Tennessee, McMillon first worked at Walmart as a summer associate unloading trucks in a distribution center at age 17. He earned an MBA from the University of Tulsa and returned to Walmart, rising through merchandising and operations roles before being appointed CEO in February 2014. McMillon's tenure has been defined by Walmart's digital transformation. Facing existential competitive pressure from Amazon, he orchestrated the $3.3 billion acquisition of Jet.com in 2016 and brought in Silicon Valley talent to build out Walmart's e-commerce capabilities. Under his leadership, Walmart's online sales have grown from a negligible base to one of the largest e-commerce operations in the United States, while the company's 10,500+ stores serve as both retail locations and fulfillment nodes. Beyond e-commerce, McMillon has expanded Walmart into healthcare, fintech, and advertising. Walmart Health clinics, the Walmart+ membership program, and the Walmart Connect advertising platform represent new revenue streams that diversify the business beyond traditional retail. He has also invested heavily in supply chain automation, including robotic fulfillment centers and autonomous delivery. Known for his understated Midwestern style, McMillon leads the world's largest private employer with 2.1 million associates. He has navigated the company through the COVID-19 pandemic supply chain crisis, wage pressure debates, and the fundamental restructuring of American retail, consistently delivering revenue growth and operational efficiency improvements that have driven Walmart's stock to all-time highs.
