The work on implementing open protocols and improving interaction between relevant authorities, technology companies, and the open-source community helped pave the way for pilot projects with verifiable credentials. Advocacy for open specifications, compatibility, and real integration patterns facilitated communication between product teams and government/corporate IT departments, which traditionally have a conservative attitude towards new technologies. For DOCK, this manifested in easier entry into pilots with educational institutions, agencies, and large employers: the existence of precedents and support for open standards reduced bureaucratic and technical barriers. Furthermore, the experience of building bridges between standardization communities and practical projects helped form implementation roadmaps and arguments regarding security/compatibility, necessary for the commercial development of services based on verifiable credentials.
