Chairman & CEO of Carrier Global · Carrier Global

David Gitlin has served as Chairman and CEO of Carrier Global Corporation since its spin-off from United Technologies in April 2020, leading the company through a complete strategic transformation. Before Carrier, Gitlin held senior roles at United Technologies and Collins Aerospace, bringing an operational rigor forged in the demanding aerospace industry. Gitlin's most consequential decision was the EUR 12 billion acquisition of Viessmann Climate Solutions in 2024, making Carrier the global leader in heat pumps — the key technology for building decarbonization in Europe and increasingly in North America. This acquisition, the largest in HVAC industry history, positioned Carrier at the center of the energy transition megatrend as governments worldwide mandate electrification of heating. Equally transformative were Gitlin's divestitures: he sold the Fire & Security business to Bosch for $4.4 billion and the Commercial Refrigeration segment, leaving Carrier as a pure-play HVAC and climate solutions company. This focus on a single, high-growth end market with strong secular tailwinds (climate change driving cooling demand, regulations driving heat pump adoption) has re-rated Carrier's multiple significantly. Gitlin's decisions on Viessmann integration and European heat pump market execution, North American residential HVAC cycle timing, commercial HVAC data center opportunity capture, and margin expansion through operational efficiency are the primary drivers of Carrier's premium valuation.
