David Campbell serves as President and CEO of Evergy, Inc., the regulated electric utility formed from the 2018 merger of Westar Energy and Kansas City Power & Light (a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy). Evergy serves approximately 1.7 million customers across Kansas and western Missouri, a service territory that includes the Kansas City metropolitan area and many rural Kansas communities. Campbell's leadership has coincided with a remarkable shift in Evergy's growth outlook. Historically a slow-growth Midwestern utility, Evergy's service territory has attracted significant data center development and manufacturing investment, driven by abundant and affordable land, reliable power supply, and central U.S. location. Meta, Google, and other technology companies have announced major data center projects in the region, driving load growth far above historical trends. His key priorities include building the generation and transmission infrastructure to serve new large industrial and data center customers, managing rate cases across two regulatory jurisdictions (Kansas Corporation Commission and Missouri Public Service Commission), transitioning the generation fleet from coal toward renewables and natural gas, and maintaining affordability for residential customers while funding growth. Campbell's ability to convert the data center pipeline into connected load, secure constructive regulatory outcomes, and finance growth while maintaining credit quality are the primary stock drivers.
