Dan Fuss
US investment grade and high yield bonds, global fixed income, institutional bond investing, value-oriented credit analysis
Dan Fuss joined Loomis Sayles in 1976 and remained with the firm for decades, eventually becoming Vice Chairman. He managed the Loomis Sayles Bond Fund, which became known for its flexible, value-oriented approach to fixed income investing — willing to own high-yield bonds, international bonds, and convertibles in addition to investment grade securities. Fuss developed a reputation for independent thinking and a long-term perspective that contrasted with more benchmark-focused bond managers. His investment philosophy emphasized identifying bonds that were mispriced relative to their credit quality and holding them through maturity or until the mispricing corrected. With a career spanning over six decades, Fuss accumulated knowledge of multiple interest rate cycles, defaults, and credit crises, making him one of the most experienced fixed income practitioners of his era.
