Colm Kelleher
UBS-Credit Suisse merger, Swiss banking crisis, bank acquisition integration
Colm Kelleher became chairman of UBS in April 2022, having previously been president and co-head of investment banking at Morgan Stanley. In March 2023, he led UBS through one of the most consequential banking transactions in European history — the emergency government-facilitated acquisition of Credit Suisse for approximately $3.25 billion after a bank run threatened to destabilize the Swiss financial system. The acquisition came with $9 billion in government loss guarantees. Kelleher's experience managing complex financial institutions has been central to the integration process of one of the most complex bank mergers ever. The Credit Suisse acquisition significantly expanded UBS's global wealth management franchise, positioning the combined entity as the dominant private banking institution serving ultra-high-net-worth clients globally.
