Colin LeMahieu

Founder and lead protocol developer · Nano (project)

Designed and implemented the protocol, reference node software, and network upgrades that define XNO's technical behaviour

Authored the original protocol design and delivered the reference implementations that launched the network and defined core technical invariants. Work included publishing the whitepaper for RaiBlocks (later rebranded to Nano), designing the block-lattice ledger structure, and implementing the Open Representative Voting consensus model; these concrete design choices established XNO's feeless transfers, per-account chains and asynchronous confirmation model. Led development of the primary node and wallet software used by exchanges and community validators, producing releases and performance optimizations that directly affected throughput, confirmation latency and memory/disk requirements. Maintained and merged protocol patches, coordinated major network upgrades and managed migration steps that changed how transactions are propagated and validated on-chain. Directed decisions on supply mechanics, transaction fee policy (zero-fee model), and reference client behavior that shaped token economics and practical on-chain use of XNO. Those technical decisions constricted how custodians, wallets, and market makers could integrate the token and influenced listing criteria and exchange integration work. Provided stewardship through public developer communications, GitHub merges and release notes that guided integrators and node operators. The combination of protocol authorship, client implementations and upgrade management produced a direct, measurable effect on network reliability, exchange integrations and the day-to-day utility of the XNO token.
