Christopher Hohn
Founded TCI (2003); $40B+ AUM concentrated in 10-15 positions; generated extraordinary long-term returns; climate activist campaigns at Safran, Airbus, Holcim; major donor through CIFF (Children's Investment Fund Foundation).
Christopher Hohn studied economics at Southampton University and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. He worked at Perry Capital before founding TCI (The Children's Investment Fund) in 2003 — a name that reflects the fund's structure, in which a portion of profits flows to the affiliated CIFF charity. TCI is notable for its extreme concentration: the fund typically holds only 10-15 positions, making very large bets in high-conviction ideas. This concentrated approach has generated exceptional long-term returns, making Hohn one of the wealthiest people in the UK and Europe. TCI became internationally known in 2005 when it launched an activist campaign against Deutsche Börse, successfully blocking its proposed acquisition of the London Stock Exchange. More recently TCI has become one of the most aggressive institutional climate activists, filing shareholder resolutions and launching public campaigns against major companies in airlines, utilities, and industrials sector for insufficient climate action and emissions disclosure. Hohn has pledged the majority of his fortune to CIFF, which focuses on children's rights, education, and climate change. Despite the fund's Christian/charity branding, TCI has been involved in contentious proxy battles and has received criticism for aggressive tactics.
