Carlos Hank Gonzalez

Chairman of Banorte · Banorte

global

Carlos Hank Gonzalez chairs Grupo Financiero Banorte, Mexico's largest domestically-owned financial group and the country's second-largest bank by assets (behind BBVA Mexico). The Hank family is one of Mexico's most prominent business dynasties with deep roots in banking and politics. Banorte is distinctive among major Mexican banks in being the only one controlled by Mexican shareholders — BBVA, Citibanamex (sold by Citi), Santander, and HSBC are all foreign-owned. Banorte is uniquely positioned for Mexico's nearshoring boom. As global supply chains shift manufacturing from China to Mexico to be closer to US consumers, massive industrial investment is flowing into Mexican states. Banorte, with its national presence and corporate lending capabilities, is a primary beneficiary of this infrastructure and manufacturing investment cycle. The bank also holds a privileged position in government banking — managing payroll for millions of government employees and pensioners. Key decisions involve capturing nearshoring-driven lending demand, digital banking innovation, government relationship management, consumer lending growth, and positioning for potential market share gains as Citi divested Banamex.
