Arun Kumar Singh

Chairman & CEO of ONGC · ONGC

global

Arun Kumar Singh serves as Chairman and CEO of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), India's flagship upstream oil and gas company and one of the largest publicly traded energy companies in Asia. ONGC accounts for approximately 70% of India's domestic crude oil production and a significant share of natural gas output, making it a cornerstone of India's energy security strategy. As a government-owned enterprise (the Indian government holds approximately 58% of shares), ONGC operates at the intersection of commercial objectives and national energy policy. Singh's leadership faces the fundamental challenge of India's mature onshore and shallow-water fields, many of which have been producing for decades and face natural decline. Arresting this production decline through enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques, new drilling programs, and field redevelopment is a critical priority. Simultaneously, Singh has pushed ONGC into deepwater exploration — particularly in the Krishna-Godavari basin — where significant gas discoveries offer potential for production growth. ONGC's stock performance is influenced by global crude oil prices, government fuel subsidy policies (which can require ONGC to bear part of the subsidy burden), production volume trends, and the company's diversification efforts. Singh has initiated green energy investments through ONGC's subsidiary ONGC Energy Strategy 2040, targeting offshore wind, green hydrogen, and carbon capture. His navigation of government policy directives, production optimization from aging fields, capital allocation between upstream exploration and energy transition, and management of subsidiary HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum) are the key variables for investors.
