Anirudh Devgan

Anirudh Devgan is the President and CEO of Cadence Design Systems, one of the world's two dominant electronic design automation (EDA) companies alongside Synopsys. Born in India, Devgan earned his PhD in electrical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and built his early career at IBM Research before joining Cadence in 2012. He rose through the ranks by leading the company's digital and signoff group, then the entire product organization, before becoming CEO in December 2021. Devgan's strategic vision extends Cadence well beyond its traditional EDA roots. He has repositioned the company as a "computational software" leader, expanding into system design and analysis (acquiring AWR, Pointwise, and BETA CAE), molecular simulation for drug discovery (OpenEye Scientific), and AI-powered design tools (Cerebrus and JedAI platforms). This diversification has opened massive new addressable markets in aerospace, automotive, life sciences, and data center infrastructure. Under Devgan's leadership, Cadence has delivered exceptional financial performance, with revenue growing from $2.9 billion in 2021 to over $4.6 billion by 2025, and operating margins consistently expanding. His focus on AI-driven chip design is particularly timely as semiconductor complexity explodes with advanced nodes (3nm, 2nm) and demand from hyperscalers surges.
