Andrew Balls
Global sovereign bonds, rates strategy, European fixed income, macro bond positioning
Andrew Balls joined PIMCO in 2006 and became global CIO for fixed income, one of the most influential positions in the bond market. He oversees PIMCO's sovereign, rates, and macro fixed income strategies across all major global markets. Balls is particularly recognized for his analysis of European fixed income markets, ECB policy transmission, and global duration strategy. He coordinates PIMCO's investment process across regional teams and represents the firm's views at major central bank and policy forums. He is the brother of Ed Balls, former UK Shadow Chancellor. His deep understanding of European institutional dynamics — including the political economy of ECB policy decisions, peripheral sovereign debt risk, and the structural constraints facing European fiscal policy — has made him one of the most credible voices on global fixed income strategy in the post-financial crisis era.
