Alexis Ohanian
Consumer tech VC, creator economy, early-stage investing, Reddit community, fintech startup ecosystem
Alexis Ohanian co-founded Reddit in 2005 with Steve Huffman while students at the University of Virginia. Reddit grew into one of the world's most visited websites, playing a significant role in internet culture and, notably, in the meme stock and WallStreetBets phenomena of 2020-2021. After leaving and rejoining Reddit, Ohanian resigned from its board in June 2020. He had previously been a partner at Y Combinator and at Initialized Capital. In 2020, he founded Seven Seven Six, named after the Olympic gold medal year (776 BC), as a founder-centric VC fund with a focus on building long-term relationships with entrepreneurs. The fund invests across consumer, fintech, and creator economy categories, leveraging Ohanian's experience as a founder himself. He has also been active in diversity and inclusion initiatives in venture capital, committing a portion of Seven Seven Six's carry to initiatives supporting underrepresented founders. His public platform, built partly through social media and his wife Serena Williams' profile, gives his portfolio companies significant visibility.
