CEO of Lumentum · Lumentum

Leads a critical supplier of optical and photonic products enabling the fiber networks and 3D sensing technologies that underpin cloud computing, AI data centers, and iPhone Face ID

Alan Lowe has led Lumentum as CEO since the company was spun off from JDS Uniphase (now Viavi Solutions) in 2015. Lumentum is a leading manufacturer of optical and photonic products that enable the transmission of data through fiber optic networks and enable 3D sensing in consumer devices. The company operates at the cutting edge of photonics — the science of generating, controlling, and detecting light for technological applications. Lumentum's Cloud & Networking segment produces high-performance lasers, optical amplifiers, and coherent transceivers used in telecommunications networks and cloud data center interconnects. As AI workloads drive explosive growth in data center traffic, the demand for high-speed optical interconnects has surged — data centers need optical components to connect servers, racks, and buildings at speeds of 400G, 800G, and beyond. The Industrial Tech segment produces industrial lasers for manufacturing applications and VCSEL (vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser) arrays used in Apple's Face ID and other 3D sensing applications. The AI infrastructure buildout has created a powerful tailwind for Lumentum's data center optical products. Key stock drivers include cloud capital expenditure and data center buildout pace, optical transceiver demand and pricing, Apple iPhone production volumes (affecting 3D sensing revenue), coherent optics technology transitions, competition with II-VI/Coherent, Broadcom, and other optical component makers, and the overall pace of fiber network buildout globally.
